Optifuel Solutions – Generation 2010

Reducing consumption truck doesn’t mean just finding alternative solutions to diesel. Renault Trucks is proven by his concept, Premium Optifuel Generation 2010. Through better aerodynamics of the cabin, due to an elongated snout with 30 cm, this vehicle concept reduce with more than 10% of diesel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to a conventional vehicle. Designed for intense interurban transport, Premium Optifuel Generation 2010 is a test vehicle, support of a research program aimed at achieving a reduction in diesel consumption by 15% and CO2 emissions in comparison to an actual vehicle (Renault Premium Route 450 Euro 4).

To achieve this objective, work of the Renault Trucks still focuses on optimizing the powertrain engine and gearbox, but particularly on energy consumption of auxiliaries. This project is at the same time a perfect opportunity to test a new high-performance fuel, in cooperation with Total.

A second source of savings comes from reducing rolling resistance, obtained thanks to a new generation of tires from Michelin, Renault Trucks partner in this project. However, essential reductions in the consumption of oil and CO2 emissions are due to grandest work performed on the train aerodynamics.

Vehicle Aerodynamics 2010 Premium Optifuel Generation comes from an elongation of 30 cm of coverage area of the car bumper. This is just a matter of style: Renault Trucks vehicle apply what is called the principle of droplet of water, well-known car designers to improve vehicle outlet to wind. Mirrors have been removed to be replaced with an ingenious reflector system consisting of cameras: five cameras in front and one rear. Pavilion was exposed and elevated to 4.16 m, it functions as a deflector.

The semitrailer was entirely stylized by Lamberet. This new concept calls for a fairing side, a fairing under the chassis and profiled raising of the roof . Reducing power coupling, consumption source, is amplified by adding a deflector of 70 cm at back.

All of these technical solutions gives the vehicle an innovative feature that seduces through both its aggressive profile and effective use.

Neither driver has not been forgotten, because his behavior is essential in consumption reducing. The concept Optifuel Solutions Generation 2010, he benefits from a support system to have a peak Conduct. Throughout the road, he will get all the behavioral parameters required to optimize its overall productivity of road. Optifuel Solutions Generation 2010 concept means 25 tonnes of freight with a decrease in consumption of five liters per 100 km. But to implement this concept requires a clear trend of change in regulations on the size of heavy vehicles. In fact, adding aerodynamic components - to preserve the load capacity and volume - lead to a convoy of over 100 cm length.

Renault Trucks goal is to sell as soon as possible a simple and economic solution of consumption reducing for carriers to be able to see quickly the effects of their budget operations.

An initial demonstration, born from research done for Optifuel Generation Solutions 2010 will be tested in the autumn of this year, on a test circuit to validate the results consumption in order to sale by the end of 2010.

Through this innovative concept, Renault Trucks push up to maximum European regulation limits.

Generation Solutions 2010 Optifuel concept can go further by adding a few tens of centimeters to highlight what may mean reducing consumption for heavy trucks and a significant decrease in CO2 emissions.
